Day 31: Ice Ice Baby

Assignment: Make a photograph that features repetition.

We are preparing for a winter storm tonight.  According to reports, it is supposed to be one of the worst since record-keeping began.  I wanted to take a picture of all the ice outside, but you can't really see the ice covering EVERYTHING.  It is raining ice-- freezing rain.  The whole sidewalk is iced over-- about 1/4" thick.  This is only the beginning.  Can't wait to see what is in store for tomorrow.

Day 30: Cocoa Latte

I decided to forgo the assignment because I thought the assignment was almost identical to an assignment the other day... and frankly I just wasn't into it.

It was one of those hot cocoa days.  I love this invention.  Everyone needs one of these fancy things.  Perfect hot chocolate ever. YUM!

Day 29: Snail Mail

Assignment: Make a photograph that illustrates an aspect of communication.

Since I was little, I have had this fascination with the mail.  I have always loved getting the mail... and getting mail... just ask my mom.  Most of the time, it's only junk and bills.  But, there is that rare moment when you get to the mailbox only to see an unexpected (or excepted, for that matter) letter or a package.  It's just FUN! With email and Facebook, it's a fading method of communication, but I still love it.

Day 28: Lady in Red

Assignment: Today's theme is red.  Red hot? Red paint? Or something else? You decide.  Make your photo and then reply with a link.

I love red lipstick.  I've tried it a couple times... doesn't really work for me, but I think it looks great on some.  Anyway, this was my backup option.  I actually painted my nails today (hasn't been done since October... really needed it).  And I painted them red.  But, I realized my feet are not that cute.  So those photos are not going up.  But, I did throw on some cute new shoes to show off my new paint job.

Day 27: Guitar Hero

Assignment: Make a photograph that features a very distinct curved line or surface today.

My guitar was my hero tonight as it was 10:00 and I still hadn't taken my photo yet (thanks to my reading class I am taking).  Anyway, great curvy lines here! I'm pretty happy with this one.

Day 26: I'm Thirsty

I can't get enough of this stuff.

Day 25: Magnetic Attraction

Assignment: Make a photograph today that illustrates attraction.  Pick whatever definition of the word you'd like.

Attraction [uh-trak-shuhn] -noun
the force by which one object attracts another

These magnetic balls are so addicting. And you can make a cool cube... like this:

Day 24: Dark Night

Assignment: Use hard light that casts sharp distinct shadows in a photograph today.

I can't believe he let me do this.  He is the best!

Because of work, I missed those early afternoon harsh natural shadows... so we had a little shoot today.

And he has some mad skills with shadow puppets.

Dog

Rabbit

Reindeer... pretty good.

Eagle, hawk, falcon...you pick the species...

Swan

Duck in dog's mouth

Day 23: Stopping By The Woods

Assignment: Celebrate the pretty things in life. Make a photograph of the most beautiful thing you see today.

I saw this topic early in the day; I'm very grateful for that.  I felt like my eyes were looking for beauty everywhere.  I saw beauty in the baby sitting in front of me at church as her other brother (maybe 4 or 5 years old) was so sweetly trying to make her smile.  Her laugh was adorable.  I saw beauty in the same family as they shared hugs.  I saw beauty in the young women at church as they stood for "Truth and Righteousness" and recited the Young Women's Theme.  I saw beauty in their leaders as they shared successes and expressed, through tears, their concern for the youth in the ward.  I saw beauty in one of the leaders who talked so sweetly about his wife and how grateful he was to be married.  All these things could not be captured on my camera, but those were the most beautiful things I saw today.

Instead, Jonny and I went for a drive to find "something" tangible I could photograph.  Today was one of those days that remind me of Robert Frost's "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening".

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Even though I am not on a horse, this is a little bit of what I picture when I think of this poem.

This is what Jonny thought was beautiful.  While pointing the camera at me, he said "That's what I think is beautiful. We can be done now!" Cute!

Day 22: Stripes

Assignment: Make a photo that features stripes of some sort today.

Another last minute post... I'll try to do less of these.  I really wanted to get a great picture of a flag, but by the time I got around to finding time to do it, it was too dark outside.  Next best thing... my socks.  Many who knows me know of my deepest love for socks.  Especially a fresh new pair of socks.  Well, I have quite the collection and these are one of my most favorite pairs... up to the knees and all. So there you go!

Day 21: Epic Date Night

AssignmentTake color out of the equation and make a monochromatic photograph today.

Self Explanatory.  Sometimes I feel like I should get away from taking all the "artsy" pictures and actually document my life.  Since being married, we don't take pictures anymore and I hate that.  Anyway. we went out with these lovely people.  It was a three hour adventure to Red Lobster. You heard me right-- three hours.  But, they had a killer $30 deal for 2 meals!

Congrats on the engagement.

Congrats on the baby.

Always trying to get a laugh.

And this is what we came home to... MORE SNOW. I'm feeling a little over the snow for the time being.

Day 20: It's A Beautiful Day

Assignment: How low can you go? Make a photograph today from a low point of view.

Though the day started out as a wintery nightmare, it ended with beautiful blue skies and a golden sunset... glistening over a fresh coat of snow.

It was just too pretty to post only one photo... and here they are:

The next few pics were taken from inside my car behind a DIRTY windshield.  Don't find the mess.

Can you see the deer in this picture? It is crossing in front of the car.
